Gary Steven "Steve" Shroyer, 58, of Sully, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A celebration of life gathering will follow until 4 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to the family and mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Born Nov. 5, 1966, in Orange County, CA, to Patsy Kimbrough, Steve spent his early years moving between Arkansas and Oklahoma. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in Oklahoma and went on to work in a variety of roles throughout his life.
Steve dedicated more than three decades of his career to Martin Marietta as a heavy equipment operator. Among other jobs, Steve also worked as a security guard at the Pure Country Club in Hochatown, OK - an experience that proved life-changing when he met his life partner, Cindy Holen, in September 2001. The two have been together ever since. Outside of work, he found joy in spending time with family, hunting, fishing, and building and repairing firearms.
He is survived by his life partner Cindy Holen; her daughter, Pam (Bruce) DeVries; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and Cindy’s daughter Michele Mennen.
