Approximately 100 people spent an entertaining evening soaking up musical performances of all sorts of styles at the Lynnville-Sully Variety Show on Saturday, Mar. 1. Ms. Brenna Hamborg, 7-12 band/choir teacher, was pleased with how the event went.
“The night went very well,” Ms. Hamborg said. “All of the student acts were successful, and the community acts were as well.”
The evening featured seven student acts and two community groups, The Sully Big Band, and a group made up of alumni or others who had connections to L-S in some way.
A fun aspect of the night was a voting booth where audience members could vote for their favorite act. The winning act announced at the end of the night was the duet of L-S eighth-grader Payton Bowlin and Pastor Kari Lee, who sang “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman.”
The L-S Middle School and High School Choirs opened the Variety Show singing “Don’t Stop Believin’,” and the high school choir later performed “That’s What Makes You Beautiful.” Other student performances included piano solos by sophomore Olivia Beyer (“Golden Hour/ Runaway Mashup”) and junior Ana Van Wyk (“Where Is My Mind”) and a saxophone solo by freshman Nikolai Van Wyk (“Careless Whisper”). Vocal solos were performed by senior Tobi Pinegar (“He Threw Me”) and sophomores Jordyn Rozendaal (“The Ballad of Jane Doe”) and Emma Parkinson (“When I Was Your Man”).
The Sully Big Band played earlier on in the night and also performed the final act of the memorable musical evening.
