Feelings of gratitude and giving went hand in hand this Thanksgiving season as students, churches, and area businesses orchestrated food drives to lend a helping hand to local people in need.
For the ninth year, Co-Line Welding, Inc, a local manufacturer south of Sully, held their annual food drive. Employees were encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items in exchange for a free pizza lunch the Friday before Thanksgiving. This year, Team Co-Line answered with an impressive and record amount of 1,541 pounds of food for the East Jasper Christian Food Pantry, the most they have ever donated at one time. Not only did the employees pitch in, but Co-Line matched it – dollar per pound – by writing a check to the pantry located in Kellogg for $1,541.
The Lynnville-Sully SOAR Team recruited L-S students and their families to contribute to the “Hawks Fight Hunger!” campaign leading up to Thanksgiving. A trunk full of food was loaded up and delivered to Heart to Heart Food Pantry in Lynnville on Nov. 22.
At Sully First Reformed Church’s annual Thanksgiving Eve Service, the congregation brought in non-perishable food items. During the service, children of the church gathered the food with wagons and brought it all to the front of the sanctuary. Over 17 totes of food were collected for families in need at L-S School.
