Long-time Sully resident Fred Schmidt will serve as Sully’s 4th of July Parade Grand Marshal on Friday, July 4.
Fred Schmidt, age 92, has been named Sully’s 4th of July Parade Grand Marshal. Schmidt has been a lifelong resident of Sully, married to his wife Helen for 72 years, and together they raised six girls in the Lynnville-Sully community: Jaci, Jocelyn, Jerilyn, Joelyn, Janna, and Janel. He graduated from Sully High School in 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Throughout his working career, he owned and operated Schmidt Lumber for 60 years in Sully. During his free time, he volunteered countless hours and materials to
L-S causes including running clock at both football and basketball games for many years. He bleeds blue and gold and still enjoys watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play ball. Schmidt has also been a faithful member of the Sully Community Church and Sully Lions Club along with serving on various Jasper County Boards and Sully City Council. In addition to his wife and daughters, his family also includes 17 grandkids, 35 great-grandkids, and four great-great-grandkids. Thank you, Fred, for your service to our community!
