William Jay Slycord was born Apr. 5, 1953, in Oskaloosa, to Peter James and Anna Mae (Vink) Slycord. He passed away July 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Bill, the second of four brothers, grew up on his family’s farm east of Pella. He was a 1971 graduate of Pella Community High School and went to auctioneering school in Mason City.

He married Florence Dickman Oct. 24, 1975, at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

Bill started his career as an auctioneer with Marvin Vande Lune and then continued on his own for many years. He also had many other jobs, including agency manager for the Des Moines Register for 15 years. His passion was auctions and auctioneering! Bill was a hard worker who took great pride in his auctioneering and enjoyed collecting antiques. He was a kind, humble man who was always helping people, especially those in need. He loved everyone and was never judgmental. Bill was a wonderful role model and great leader who taught his children to be respectful and to be leaders too.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Florence; his children: Eric (Candy) Slycord of Eldridge and Angela (Chris) Terlouw of Killduff, and their children, Samuel and Abby Terlouw; his brothers: John (Marie) Slycord of Knoxville and Don (Sheryl) Slycord of Kalamazoo, MI.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Deb Slycord.
