Wilda M. Nikkel, 91

Wilda M. Nikkel, 91, of Newton and formerly of Sully, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at MercyOne Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or Sully First Reformed Church may be left at the funeral home.

Wilda, the daughter of Everett C. and Jennie (Rykhoek) Van Der Pol, was born Feb. 5, 1928, in rural Taintor. She attended schools in rural Taintor. Wilda was united in marriage with John H. Nikkel on Jan. 20, 1950, at her parents’ home in rural Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Wilda was a member of Sully First Reformed Church. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and raising coonhound puppies.

Wilda is survived by her sons: Calvin (Nancy) Nikkel of Kellogg and Curtis (Kathy) Nikkel of Monroe; grandchildren, James (Marcee) Nikkel of Pleasant Hill, Kimbra (Eric) Tysland of Burlington, Scott Nikkel of Altoona, and Clint (Chelsea) Nikkel of Overland Park, KS; her great-grandchildren, Tommy Nikkel, Lily Nikkel, Becket Tysland, and Hudson Tysland; sisters, Iva (Marvin) Baarda and Donna (Duane) Brand, both of Sully; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Van Der Pol of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Nikkel; and siblings, Henrietta (Joe) Harthoorn, Geneva (Arnold) Ratcliff, and Melvin Van Der Pol.
