Joy Verwers, 87

Arlene “Joy” Verwers, 87, passed away peace-fully on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Her funeral was in Texas on June 24. She was born in Sully and was married to Clifford Verwers for 55 years. Following high school, she became a beautician but her primary role was homemaker. She worked managing real estate for the family throughout that time.

Though born in the country, she was always a city girl at heart. She and Clifford enjoyed traveling.  They took numerous trips abroad, flew their private plane with the All-Texas-Air Tour for many years, and later traveled the country in their RV. Joy enjoyed gardening, painting, and singing. She was in several performances with community theater. She was a member of Rotary Club Fort Worth-Southwest.

Her primary passion in her later years was being a grandma to her grandchildren. She was called “Grandma Joy” by a number of other children that entered her life over the years. Seeing her great-grandchildren continued to make her light up.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael Verwers, Craig (Debbie) Verwers, and Gary (Julie) Verwers; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Berneda Oswalt of Sully and Jeane Montray-Morris of Duncan, OK; and her brother, Ronald Vonk of Fort Worth, TX.
