Geraldine L. Allison, 80

Geraldine Allison, 80, formerly of the Lynnville and Newton areas, passed away Saturday morning, May 31, 2014, at Mayflower Health Care in Grinnell, under the care of Hospice.

Private family services will be at a later date. The Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Geraldine’s name are being accepted or to the Heart of Worship Church. Burial will be in the Hewitt Cemetery near Galesburg.

Geraldine L. Allison, the daughter of Andrew and Gertie (Van Hal) Van Sant, was born Aug. 29, 1933, near Lynnville. She attended Sully Christian School and was a graduate of the Sully High School Class of 1952.  She later attended classes to be a CNA, as a nurse’s aid. She was employed as a nurse’s aid and activities director by several area nursing homes.

On Oct. 24, 1986, Geraldine was united in marriage with Delbert Eugene Allison in Oskaloosa. She had devoted her life to her family.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delbert on July 5, 2007; stepson Randall Allison; sisters: Jennie  Van Sant, Aletta Beerends, and Genevieve  Henderson; and brothers: Andrew Van Sant, Jr., Willis Van Sant, and Dick Van Sant.

Those left to honor Geraldine’s memory include her daughters: Charlyce Weeks and Phyllis Martin; her sons: Jay Martin, Thomas Martin, Lyle Martin, and Eric Martin; her stepdaughters: Brenda Bayles, Ramona Fenner, Toni L. Olson, and Tina M. Karns; her 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grand-children; her brothers: Geurt, Henry, Delmar Harold, and Doyle Van Sant; a sister-in-law, Marcella Van Sant; and many old neighbors and friends.
