Gary Van Sant, 63

Gary Van Sant, 63, formerly of Sully, died Sept. 9, 2017, in St. Charles, MO, where he was living. Graveside services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Gary grew up in the Sully area. He was a 1971 graduate of Lynnville-Sully High School and went on to graduate from the American Institute of Business in 1973 and earned his BA degree in accounting from Simpson College in 1991. Gary began his lifelong career as an accountant in 1973. He worked for Robert Half, Inc. and Pella Implement. He enjoyed and took pride in his work and enjoyed the traveling that was involved.

Gary was a member of Sully Christian Reformed Church and was active in Cadets and the church council. He also enjoyed being a member of Jaycees and Lions Clubs. Gary was a die-hard Yankees fan and never missed a game. He enjoyed golf, slow-pitch softball, basketball, and playing cards or any games.

Gary was a loving brother and will be missed by his siblings: Roger (Lisa) Van Sant of Montezuma, Duane (Ann) Van Sant of Clive, and Barbara Van Sant of Sully; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
