Duane C. Rozendaal, 64

Duane C. Rozendaal, 64, of Newton and formerly of Sully, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 31, at Sully First Reformed Church.

Duane, the son of Gorman and LaDonna (Schuring) Rozendaal, was born Mar. 21, 1953, in Newton. He grew up in Sully and graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1971 and attended Indian Hills Community College. Duane was united in marriage with Kathy Hunt on Feb. 9, 1973, in Lacey. They made their home in Sully and were blessed with two sons, Brad and Todd. Following Kathy’s death in 1988, Duane was united in marriage with Jodi Ver Dught Brisel on July 24, 1992, in Newton. In 2005, they moved to rural Newton.

Duane worked as a carpenter for many years with Fred Schmidt, Elscott Construction, and Fisher Woodmills. For the last 24 years, Duane had worked at Central Iowa Water Association as a right-of -way manager. He also was a real estate agent, broker, and appraiser. He was a member of the LSK Jaycees, Sully City Council, Elks Lodge #1270, Des Moines Woodworkers Association, Tri-County and Des Moines Bass Clubs, Newton Board of Realtors, and Jasper County Condemnation Board and Board of Review. Duane liked woodworking, fishing, camping, going to the races and the Iowa State Fair, and spending time with friends and family. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going to their activities. Duane was also an ordained minister.

Duane is survived by his wife, Jodi of rural Newton; sons, Brad (Liz) Rozendaal of Newton, Todd Rozendaal of Des Moines, and Trent Brisel (Amy Montz) of Newton; his grandchildren, Peyton, Lane, Haylee, Reagan, Hunter, and Payton; his parents, Gorman and LaDonna Rozendaal of Sully; his sister, Cindy (Gerald) Pleima of Pella; his brother-in-law, Tony Ver Dught of Warsaw, IL; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy; paternal grandparents, Pete and Henrietta Rozendaal; and maternal grandparents, John Schuring and Johnnie and Grace Borrall.
