Doug Bakker, 54

Douglas Kent Bakker, 54, of Grand Rapids, MI, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 21, 2018, after a 6-1/2 year battle with cancer. Doug was the co-owner of Starlite Kitchens for 18 years and formed many friendships through his business. He enjoyed volunteering for the South Christian Football Program for many years.

His father, Rev. Paul Bakker (former pastor of Sully Christian Reformed Church), and a nephew, Shane DeJong, preceded him in death.

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Lynne (Kunnen); his children, Shari and Dustin Elgersma, Kimberly and William Kool, Matthew and Jillian Bakker, Jordan and Sara Bakker; grandchildren, Peyton, Emmy, Evie, Ainsley, and Arie; mother, Margery Bakker; sisters, Arloa and Kurt Harthoorn (of Sully), Kathy Kroeze, Jan and Harlan Dirksen, Beth and Leon Wassenaar; parents-in-law, Ronald and Anne Kunnen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Roger Bronsink, Daniel and Kathy Kunnen, Jeffrey and Jean Kunnen; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at Caledonia Christian Reformed Church, 9957 Cherry Valley SE, Grand Rapids, MI, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, with the Rev. R. Scott Greenway officiating. Interment will be in Dutton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the South Christian High School Football Program.
