Dorothy I. (Miller) Tratchel, 92

Dorothy I. (Miller) Tratchel, 92, of Newton and formerly of Killduff, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, at Vandalia Cemetery. Memorials to the Harmony House in Waterloo can be left at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.

Dorothy, the daughter of Lowman and Cora (Fleming) Miller, was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Vandalia. She attended rural Jasper County schools and graduated from Runnells High School in 1943. She was united in marriage with Leland Tratchel Sept. 16, 1943, in Ivy. Dorothy worked as an office clerk at Maytag Company for 31 years before retiring in 1990. She had been a member of the Killduff United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cross-stitch, crocheting, and playing cards.

Those left to honor Dorothy’s memory include her son, Jack Tratchel of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Lea (Russell) Ladehoff, Amanda (Corey) McGraw, Jacqulyn Marmion, Todd (JoAnn) Tratchel, and Bret Tratchel; her great-grandchildren: Silas Ladehoff, Lexi and Conner McGraw, Tommy and Carlie Tratchel, and Chelsea, Ashley, and Jeffrey Tratchel; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leland; sons, Lee Tratchel and Carl Tratchel; five brothers: Lawrence, Kenneth, Everett, Calvin, and Cecil Miller; and five sisters: Viola Wicker, Merle Mahaffey, Sylvia DeReus, Lorene Rosborough, and Anna Parrott.
