Charles D. Conover

Charles D. Conover, 91, of Grinnell and formerly of Sully, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Sully Community Church. Interment was in Sully Cemetery. Memorials have been designated for the Sully Community Church Mission Fund.

Charles Day Conover was born in Oskaloosa on July 23, 1922, to Walton and Ethel Day Conover. Charles received his early education near his farm home and later graduated from William Penn College in Oskaloosa.

On June 24, 1955, Charles was united in marriage with Dorothy Harthoorn at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. They were blessed with three children. After his marriage, Charles farmed and later enjoyed working at Iowa Rural Concern Hotline for 20 years.

Charles was a member of the Sully Community Church where he served in many capacities. He enjoyed reading and fishing.

Those left to cherish his memory are: His three children: Wes (Jan) Conover of Sully, Carolyn (Dale) Rolffs of Lynnville, and Bonita (Curt) Jansen of Newton; eight grandchildren: Chad (Beth) Conover, Anna (Darin) Arkema, Jenna (Brad) Chamra, Alaina (Kennan) Archer, Trent (Joa) Rolffs, Natasha (Nathan) Nikkel, Shawn Jansen, and Ryan Jansen; six great-grandchildren: Brooke, Will, and Tyler Conover and Evan, Andrew, and Kate Arkema; sisters-in-law, Norma Conover, Nellie Harthoorn, Cora Jansen, and Ernestine Dieleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on Aug. 21, 2008; and siblings, Louise Augustine and Bruce Conover.
