Carrol Schnell, 92

Carrol E. Schnell, 92, of rural Sully, passed away Nov. 21, 2019, at his home. Funeral ser-vices were Monday, Nov. 25, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Memorial contributions may be made to Killduff United Methodist Church, Mercy Hospice, or a charity of your choice.

Carrol, the son of Edward and Pearl (Hagedorn) Schnell, was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Grinnell. Mar. 12, 1955, Carrol was united in marriage with Lora Poots in Newton. They made their home on a farm near Killduff.

A Korean War veteran, he served in the 45th Division, 245th Tank Battalion, Thunderbirds “C” Company as a tank driver and platoon sergeant.  A lifelong farmer, Carrol was a member of 4-H, Rural Young People, Farm Bureau, Jasper County Extension Council ASC Committee, and served as a Buena Vista Township Trustee.

Carrol is survived by five children; Chris of Sully, Gale (Scott) Kraft of Walcott, Bernice (Dennis) Metz of Sioux City, Kay (Randy) Larrison of Piedmont, SD, and  Chet (Ali) Schnell of Sully; four grandchildren, Gregg (Ashley) Metz, Joel (Kelly) Metz, Nicole Kraft, and Brody Schnell; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Joanna, and Jayla; his sister, Ellene Renaud; his sister-in-law, Jean Schnell; and many nieces and nephews.

Carrol was preceded in death by his wife; parents; stepmother Vera (Davisson) Schnell; brother Ken Schnell; brother-in-law Jerry Renaud; and nephew Jim Schnell.
