Butch McVay, 69

Larry “Butch” McVay, 69, of Searsboro, passed away Sunday after-noon, Nov. 25, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial services were held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.

Larry “Butch” Joe McVay, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Moore) McVay, was born Sept. 16, 1949, in Oskaloosa. He graduated from North Mahaska High School in 1968 before attending Indian Hills Community College. On July 28, 1973, Butch was united in marriage to Diana Pate at the Friends Church in New Sharon. To this union two children were born, Tom and Dorothy. Butch trucked for Golden Sun Feed for 25 years and J.B. Hunt for 15 years before most recently working at Walmart in Grinnell. Butch enjoyed watching TV, NASCAR, and mowing his yard. He enjoyed being outdoors, and he used to spend a lot of time deer hunting. Butch was a former member of the Searsboro Volunteer Fire Department.

Butch's memory will be honored by his wife of 45 years, Diana McVay of Searsboro; two children, Tom (Melinda) McVay of Toledo and Dorothy McVay of Tipton; three grandchildren, Blake McVay, Chaz McVay, Christopher McVay; four stepgrandchildren, Kayla, Queta, Junior, and Consuleo; one great-granddaughter; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
