Bud Manges, 98

Bud Manges, 98, formerly of Pella, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at the West Ridge Nursing Home in Knoxville. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at First Baptist Church in Pella. Interment was in Portergrove Cemetery, Pella, with military rites by American Legion Post #89.

Charles Jefferson "Bud" Manges was born Feb. 8, 1915, to Harry and Mable Liming Manges in Wells, MN. Bud grew up in the Oskaloosa/Montezuma area where he completed the eighth grade in the Oskaloosa School System. He served his country with the United States Navy Seabees from 1943-1945.

Bud married Frances VR "Tiny" Day in 1935 in Oskaloosa and they were blessed with one child, Charles Dana. On Dec. 23, 1956, Bud was united in marriage with Johanna Mae Visser in Oskaloosa. They made their home for over 50 years in the house that Bud built on Huber Street in Pella.

Those who will cherish his memory are his son Dana "Chuck" (Rosemary) Manges of Pella; his two grandsons, Craig (Roxanne) Manges of Fowler, CA, and Corey (Debra) Manges of Rowlett, TX; three grandchildren; his sister, Rowena Steadham of Pella; and his stepdaughter, Marilyn Jellema of Knoxville. A special thanks to Howard Bogaards for his care, concern, and friendship with Bud during these last few years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: Edward Manges, Margaret Boggs, Eloise Shroyer, Harry Manges, Delores Rowley, and Violet Van Steenis.
