Brent Nikkel, 54

Brent Nikkel, 54, of University Park, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at the MHP Emergency Room in Oskaloosa.

Funeral services were held Wednes-day, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Third Reformed Church in Pella, with the Rev. Kevin Korver officiating. Burial was in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.

Brent was born Mar. 25, 1963, in Grinnell, the son of Bernie J. and Betty Marie (Laverman) Nikkel.

During his high school years, he worked at Lubber’s Dairy in Pella. He graduated from Pella Christian High School with the Class of 1981. Following graduation, he worked for a short time at Boomsma’s Egg Produce in Pella. He later went to work at Vermeer in Pella. Ill health forced his retirement from Vermeer in 2015, after 25 years of service.

Oct. 17, 2010, Brent was united in marriage to Judy (Brummel) Stuit in Oskaloosa. Brent embraced and loved Judy’s family; he especially delighted in being “PAPA” to the grandchildren, Calvin and Nadia.

He was a member of Third Reformed Church in Pella. He enjoyed cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Kansas City Chiefs during football season. He was a gifted conversationalist; he enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and strangers alike.

Brent was a dedicated son, especially to his mother. He made sure she was well cared for until the time of her passing. He was also a very talented cook, who always enjoyed the great meal and conversation that would follow his meal preparations. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

His family includes his wife Judy Nikkel of University Park; two stepchildren, Justin (Denise) Stuit of Kansas City, MO, and Kari (Josh) Rooda of Prairie City; two step- grandchildren, Calvin and Nadia; three brothers and their wives, Larry (Connie) Nikkel of Altoona, Ervin (Kim) Nikkel of Reasnor, and Verlin (Peggy) Nikkel of Oskaloosa; two sisters and their husbands, Diane (Jay) Bruxvoort of Oskaloosa, and Pam (Paul) Bolles of Altoona; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Marilyn Brummel of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bev and Dennis DeVries of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a brother and his wife, Warren and Donna Nikkel; a sister-in-law, Debbie Nikkel; and a nephew, Scott Bolles.
