Anna Newell, 79

Anna Belle Newell, 79, of Ottumwa and formerly of Oskaloosa, died May 8, 2014, at Hospice House of Wapello and Davis County in Ottumwa.

She was born Apr. 15, 1935, in Oskaloosa to John and Violet Hooten Monroe. She married Carroll Newell in March 1952; they later divorced.

Anna had retired from Pella Corp. and had also worked at Everco and Big Smith Manufacturing. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Eddyville and was a fan of NASCAR.

Anna also enjoyed cooking for others, providing meals and treats for friends and family. Anna's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving her are daughters, Amy Newell Verseman and Arlene Newell (Jay Hutchings); a son, Alan (Brenda) Newell of Sully; two grandchildren, Austin and Elana; as well as several nieces and nephews and in-laws.

Anna is preceded in death by her parents; son in-law David Verseman; sister Francis Anton; an infant sister; brothers, James D. Monroe and Arthur Monroe; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

As were her wishes, her body has been cremated. A celebration of life is being planned for May 25 in Eddyville at the Legion Hall.

The family requests that any memorials may be made to Hospice House of Wapello and Davis County.
