Sully Fourth of July Celebration Schedule

Make plans now to attend Sully’s annual Fourth of July celebration. The patriotic festivities start Saturday, July 1, and run all through the weekend through Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4.

A tractor ride will kick off the holiday events on Saturday, July 1. A worship service open to everyone in the community is being planned for Sunday, July 2, at 6 p.m. in the Sully Central Park. Pastor Jerry Morningstar of the Sully Community Church will lead the worship. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Sully Community Church. A coffeetime will follow the service. Guests are encouraged to take their own lawn chairs.

Prior to the lighting of fireworks, weather permitting, on Monday, July 3, at 9:30 p.m. or dusk, guests can enjoy performances on Sully’s new shelter/stage at the Sully Central Park starting at 7 p.m. Karaoke and musical entertainment plans are currently in the works.

Tuesday, July 4, Sully is the place to be. Fun activities for the whole family start at 7 a.m. and last all day, including a freewill donation breakfast and lunch, Freedom Fun Run/Walk, parade, games and inflatables, water fights, tractor pulls, coed softball tournament, and more.

 

FULL SCHEDULE

Saturday, July 1

8:15 a.m: Tractor Ride to Montezuma, Grinnell, and back to Sully.

Sunday, July 2

6 p.m.: Community Worship at Sully Central Park led by Pastor Jerry Morningstar of Sully Community Church. Coffee and cookies to follow; bring lawn chairs. Rain location: Sully Community Church.

Monday, July 3

7-9:15, 10:15-12 p.m.: Lenis DeCook and Jad Van Der Zyl and hopefully others will be singing on the new Sully stage/shelter before and after fireworks, thanks to karaoke, the music and words are there, all that is missing is your voice.

9:30 p.m./dark: Fireworks. Sully Ballpark Concessions Stand will be open at 7 p.m. (Rain date: Tuesday, July 4.)

Tuesday, July 4

7 a.m.-3 p.m.: Fly-In at Sully Airport, weather dependent.

7-9:30 a.m.: Faithwalkers Breakfast at the Sully Community Center. Freewill offering.

8-10 a.m.: 22nd Annual Freedom Fun Run/Walk and Kiddie Run – 8 a.m., one-mile and 5K, starting and ending on the west side of the Sully square; 8:20 a.m., 5K run/walk; 9:10 a.m., free kids run around the square for ages eight and under. An awards ceremony will take place following the races.

9 a.m.: Free coffee and donuts served by Garden Thyme Club at Deep Rock Station.

9-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.–noon: Inflatables and Games in Sully Central Park in support of Inspirations Childcare and Preschool and Diamond Trail Children’s Center.

8:30 a.m.: Parade Registration at the Sully First Reformed Church south parking lot. Kiddie parade entries meet by the Deep Rock Station.

9:50 a.m.: Opening Ceremony including opening prayer, National Anthem, and flag raising.

10-11 a.m.: Parade and Kiddie Parade Parade route: From the church, go west to the square, turn left and around the east, south, and west sides and one more block north of the square, then go east back to the church.

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Meal by Sully Lions Club in Central Park. Tent seating will be available. Benefit for Sully Cemetery Association which needs funds for cemetery maintenance.

11 a.m.: Area Firefighters’ and Kids’ Water Fights near the Fire Station.

1-5 p.m.: Antique Tractor Pull northwest corner of Sully Business Park on west edge of Sully.

2 p.m.: Coed Softball Tourna-ment at Sully Ballpark.

 

PARADE NOTES: Everyone likes a parade to start on time; you can help. Fill out the form on page 2 or sullia.com and deliver as stated or use it to register the morning of July 4. Also, bikes and trikes kid entries register at Deep Rock Station. Parents accompanying entries, please help keep kids in a group for safety reasons and to stop in front of the parade announcing at park stage for winners announcement.

 

CANDY THROWERS: For safety reasons, throw candy all the way to the curb so children aren’t in the street picking up candy.
