Paul was born Feb. 7, 1945, to Carl and Christine (Ter Louw) Hackert at their home on Amsterdam Hill near Pella. He was the youngest of five children.

He graduated from Lynnville-Sully High School in 1963 and was united in marriage to Karen Albright on July 27, 1965, in Sully. They were blessed with three daughters: Trisha, Chandra, and Shawna.

Paul grew up farming as a boy and later worked for Vermeer Manufacturing and Maasdam Construction. He farmed most of his adult life, and owned and operated Hackert Sales and Service. He was a member of Sully First Reformed Church and had an unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior. Paul served a term as the Board President of Sully Christian School.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman, inventor, loved the beauty of God’s creation, and fished every chance he had. However, his number-one passion was following his grandchildren’s activities. Without a doubt, he was their biggest fan!

Paul will be remembered for loving his family fiercely, his infectious smile, his generosity, and his hard work ethic – leaving behind a great legacy.

In short, he made the ordinary extraordinary.

Paul is survived by his wife, Karen, and their three daughters and their families:  Trisha and Greg Criswell, Mariah, Macayla, and Maggie of Waukon; Chandra and George Clark, Sami, and Grace of Pella; and Shawna “Squirrel” and Brad Remsburg, Jake, and Whitney of West Des Moines.
