Make plans now to enjoy a day in Lynnville on Saturday, June 17. The Lynnville Chamber and Hometown Pride Committee are teaming up with L-S Youth Sports to bring community members a fun day at the Lynnville Ballpark. 1st State Bank will start the day off by providing a FREE pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. A homerun derby, base running challenge, and pitching challenge are slated to take place from 9-11:30 a.m. to show off the youth talent of the area who played L-S Youth Sports baseball and softball this year. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. near the concession stand.
Diamond Trail Children’s Center will be holding a kids carnival with lots of fun and games at the park area from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds benefit the daycare/pre-school.
At 11:45 a.m., “The National Anthem” will be sung by Angie Ver Ploeg followed by the dedication of Al Terpstra Field. The Lynnville Chamber has put many finishing touches at the ballpark over the past couple of years. The Chamber will be dedicating the field to the Lynnville man who was instrumental in making the ballpark dream a reality. Also on display that day will be the new Lynnville School bell memorial, landscaping, and signage.
One of Lynnville’s own businesses will be serving lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Jeff Arment with Lynnville’s Smokin’ J’s will have his BBQ trailer parked at the ballpark with all kinds of BBQ items, sides, and hot dogs for the kids.
At noon, a slow-pitch softball tournament will be held in Terpstra’s honor. The Chamber is looking for four teams to play in this three-game tournament with the championship game held at 2:30 p.m. Contact Faye Brand at 594-4616 or Linda Russell at 594-4639 if interested in having a team.
Please show your support of Lynnville and attend this fun morning and afternoon celebrating the history of the Lynnville School and Al Terpstra Field.
