LSCEF Walkathon fundraiser exceeds the $15,000 mark

Lynnville-Sully elementary students smashed the $13,000 fundraising goal issued by the Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation at the 2019 Walkathon on Friday, Oct. 11. Students raised a whopping $15,864 thanks to the generosity of family, friends, and area businesses.

All elementary students and staff gathered in the high school gym for the walkathon and big fundraising unveil. Elementary teachers opened up the assembly with exciting games of tic tac toe. The students were already amped up as they cheered on their teachers, but the excitement and noise levels within the gym reached new heights with the unveiling of the amount of money raised. The LSCEF will use this year’s walkathon money to make technology purchases at the elementary level.

Students whooped and hollered when the curtain revealed $15,864 was raised and that they would soon turn preK-8 principal Mrs. Teri Bowlin into a human hot dog for reaching the goal.

Two students from each grade who raised $20 or more were randomly chosen to play a part. They took turns dousing Mrs. Bowlin with a variety of hot dog toppings – ketchup, mustard, relish, chili sauce, and cheese. Bowlin wore the condiments from head to toe in celebration of generous community sup-porters.

Mother Nature didn’t cooperate for the walkathon to be held outside, so LSCEF organizers went to plan B, which moved the fun indoors. Inflatables and games kept students entertained as each grade spent 30 minutes in the gym. At the end of each session of fun, students enjoyed a drink and snack before returning to class.
