L-S FFA Banquet celebrates a year of success

The 2016 FFA Banquet held Tuesday, Mar. 15, was a celebration of a successful year for the L-S FFA Chapter and a look ahead at a bright future. Forty-four FFA members, their families, and special guests attended the evening, which included a meal featuring pork loin prepared by Dan Cross and a buffet of side dishes made by Gelene Evans’ Foods II class. FFA members served the meal to the guests before enjoying a short program.

This year’s Honorary Chapter Degree was given to Vernon Vanden Hoek. According to Brian Lowry, L-S FFA Advisor and agriculture teacher, Vanden Hoek is a long-time supporter of the L-S FFA and has served the chapter in numerous ways, from volunteering to drive bus to the Farm Progress Show and serving as a chaperone in years past, to donating materials for FFA use.

FFA members shared highlights from the year, including another successful Ag Day for L-S fifth graders, a profitable Land Lab harvest, nearly $5,700 raised through the annual fruit sales fundraiser, and the recent completion of FFA Week. Two FFA members, Marissa Vos and McKinley Conover, will represent the L-S FFA Chapter at the State Leadership Conference on Apr. 18. The group also has spring planting to look forward to and plan for.
