Area residents braved one of the first snowfalls of the season to attend Sully’s Community Christmas on Saturday morning, Dec. 10, but the weather meant a slightly smaller crowd than usual. The light dusting of snow accompanied those attending open houses of Sully-area businesses who opened up their doors in holiday spirit and offered goodies and the opportunity to win prizes. Participating busi-nesses included 1st State Bank, Ally Cuts, Casey’s General Store, Coffee Cup Cafe, Fikse Chiropractic, Great Western Bank, Hometown Press, Key Cooperative Lumber Department, Key Cooperative NAPA Store/Service Station, SCS at Synergy, Sully Library, Sully Post Office, and Sully Telephone Association.
Popular hands-on stops on the business holiday jaunt included the cookie decorating at Synergy, courtesy of Sully Christian School, and making snowman soup (hot chocolate mix) at Coffee Cup Cafe.
A big draw for the younger crowd was Santa Claus at the Sully Community Center. Hosted by the Sully Lions Club, Santa, aka Bob Van Soelen, listened to the wishes of young boys and girls and handed out goodie bags to all who visited.
The freewill donation soup dinner hosted by Faithwalkers and the bake sale organized by IMPACT, both youth groups of Sully First Reformed Church, were held around the lunch hour.
